Enabling LGND Geo Interoperability
Last week we launched LGND Geo. This week we are making it work wherever you already build with AI agents. Today, we are shipping two releases:
- The LGND Geo plugin for Claude, a marketplace you add once that installs two LGND skills.
- The LGND Geo agent SDK, one integration for Pydantic AI and other agent frameworks.
Geospatial answers are most useful inside the workflow where a decision is being made. An analyst triaging insurance claims, a developer building a site-selection agent, or a researcher tracking land-use change should not have to leave their tools to ask a question about the planet.
LGND turns imagery into embeddings that agents can search like text. These releases put that search one step away from the agents you already run, with no custom wrapper code to write or maintain.
Release 1: the LGND Geo plugin for Claude
The EarthLegend/skills repository is LGND's own Claude Code plugin marketplace, LGND Geo. The plugin currently includes the following skills:
- Geo Basics: General rules for answering with LGND Geo.
- Selecting Index: Decides between LGND’s indexed imagery sets based on user search intent.
- Find in Area: Builds a classifier to map and count occurrences of something in satellite imagery.
Once installed, Claude loads these skills when a task calls for them. You can ask in plain language, for example: "Find solar farms built near Dallas since 2020 and list their coordinates."
Because it is a standard plugin, it also gets the plugin system's housekeeping for free: install scopes for you or your whole team, updates through the marketplace, and one-command removal.
Install the plugin in Claude Code
Because LGND hosts its own marketplace, setup is two commands in a Claude Code session: register the LGND repo as a marketplace, then install the plugin from it. Full details are in Anthropic's plugin install guide.
- Add the LGND marketplace. Start Claude Code with claude, then run:
/plugin marketplace add EarthLegend/skills
Claude Code prints “Successfully added marketplace: lgnd” - Install the plugin. Run:
/plugin install lgnd-geo@lgnd
The details pane lists the two skills it adds. Pick a scope: just you, everyone on this repository, or just you in this repository. - Confirm it works. Type
/and look for the LGND commands, e.g./lgnd-geo:find-in-areaor open the Installed tab in/plugin. - Connect your LGND account. Claude will prompt you to create a LGND account in one click.
Prefer one step? /plugin install lgnd-geo --marketplace EarthLegend/skills adds the marketplace and opens the install in one go (Claude Code v2.1.275 or later).
For scripts and CI, use the shell form: claude plugin marketplace add EarthLegend/skills, then claude plugin install lgnd-geo@lgnd.
Using a private fork? If your team mirrors the marketplace in a private repository, the same command works. Claude Code clones with the git credentials already on your machine, such as gh auth login or an SSH key, so authenticate to the host first. See Add a private marketplace.
Keeping it current: third-party marketplaces have auto-update off by default. Turn it on in /plugin under Marketplaces, or run /plugin marketplace update lgnd.
Release 2: the LGND Geo agent SDK
Not every agent runs in Claude Code. The LGND Geo agent SDK is one Python package that exposes LGND search as tools any agent framework can call. You define the integration once and reuse it everywhere.
| Framework | How the SDK plugs in |
|---|---|
| pydantic-ai | Register LGND tools on an Agent; inputs and outputs are typed Pydantic models |
| Anything else | Call the SDK client directly from your own tool definitions |
The skills in the Claude plugin and the tools in the SDK call the same LGND Geo API, so a query returns the same results whichever surface asks it. Please open an issue if you'd like us to add support for other agentic frameworks!
Use the SDK
First install the package.
pip install lgnd-geo-sdkWith pydantic-ai, hand the LGND tools to an agent and ask a question:
from pydantic_ai import Agent
from lgnd_geo_sdk.pydantic_ai import lgnd_tools # placeholder: real import path
agent = Agent(
"anthropic:claude-sonnet-4-5",
tools=lgnd_tools(),
system_prompt="You answer questions about places using LGND Geo.",
)
result = agent.run_sync(
"Find new warehouse construction around Reno, Nevada since January 2025."
)
print(result.output)The lgnd-geo-sdk repository has full examples for each framework.
Get started
New to LGND Geo? Read last week's launch post and get started with LGND Geo in your ecosystem of choice:
- Claude Code users: run
/plugin marketplace add EarthLegend/skillsand install the LGND plugin. - Agent builders:
pip install lgnd-geo-sdkand start from the examples in lgnd-geo-sdk.
We will ship new LGND skills every week, each one adding a geospatial task you can hand to Claude.
